Happy New Year Everybody! It's 2011 and we've got all kinds of ideas and apps and tutorials and all kinds of things going on this year and I'm really looking forward to getting them out there. Stay tuned of course for our 4th year on the internet covering anything and all of Flash Media Server and our newest section about Wowza Media Server too.

We've got a couple of new tutorials up in the last two weeks in case you missed them somehow, Understanding how to improve the connection process: http://www.fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=43 and The Basics of Connecting one Server to another with FMS: http://www.fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=45

Both of these are great tutorials and we've got more on the way. Keep an eye out soon for the next one all about demystifying the 2010 header Flash file. There is more going on in there than you may know, and at the very least maybe it will give you some ideas about what can be done with Flash and Flash Media Server streaming.

Once again, thanks everybody for being part of FMSGuru even if you're just enjoying the free video tutorials we've got up here and keeping an eye on the posts on the forum to learn more. I'm personally looking forward to seeing how we grow throughout 2011 and beyond!

A quick update as I know I've been a bit vacant on tutorials for the past few weeks.

First up and most obvious is some quick links to the last 4 free tutorials: Demystifying the FMSGuru 2010 Header SWF http://www.fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=46, How to get the amount of clients connected with Wowza http://www.fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=47, How to get the amount of clients connected with FMS http://www.fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=48, Taking advantage of the Application.xml file for Wowza Apps http://www.fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=49

Our Wowza Section: http://www.fmsguru.com/tutorials.cfm?tab=wowza is really coming together now and it'll definitely be growing this year. Wowza is showing some amazing potential to take the lead in streaming out videos to many devices and working on the server side is a treat with it's strong Java language running it all.

We've got a couple of new products coming out soon along with updates to a couple already in place. I'm definitely excited about one of our products that I talked about here: http://www.solid-thinking.com/blog/?p=537. I look forward to posting more about how it was making an app for the Playbook. Perhaps I can incorporate that into some free tutorials on here. The other product is a bit of secret still, but most definitely very cool and I think a lot of readers and viewers here will be quite interested in it. Stay tuned.

On that note, we're half way through February now and I've got a couple of tutorials on the go here so watch close for when those are coming up. Remember we've got an RSS feed too if you're into that kind of efficiency: http://www.fmsguru.com/rss/fmsguru_tutorials_rss.cfm

Last but not least, take not of the new rating system in the tutorials. These help let me know if the tutorial was good/bad/useful/useless. Vote them up or down! Two buttons in the top left of the player. Let me know, helps me decide what topics to do tutorials on, otherwise I'm just doing whatever I feel like doing :)

Thanks again for hanging out here!

I realize that once again there's been a large delay between updates, I can definitely say though that we've been very busy. Keep your eyes out shortly for a few tutorials and our latest product created with Flex 4.5 and Wowza Media Server. There has been good demand and quite a few specific requests and we've finally managed the time to put it together. With just a few final bits to get in place before release I'd say we are very very close.

Thanks everybody for working with our rating system in place, it's helping in shaping the direction of the site with every click. Stay close as we'll be putting updates up this week, even as soon as tonight!

Thanks again for visiting and learning!

As promised by my last update a week ago, we have a new tutorial up: Working with Shared Objects with Wowza and Flex; http://www.fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=52

Also with that, we have a new product just launched: STi Chat for Wowza Media Server with Flex | Foundation Edition v4, you can find that here: http://www.solid-thinking.com/store/basic_chat_v4_wowza/

We've improved on our last version greatly by building it in Flex for one and also changing up and improving other features. Make sure to check that out!

More to follow this week, the pace should be picking back up again so stay tuned!

Thanks for visiting!

Things have been a bit slow here at FMSGuru.com, I'm quite sure the regulars have been noticing that and I apologize for the lack of updates. These last couple of months have been absolutely packed with new projects and applications to work on. Of course as I generally work on challenging applications I tend to learn all kinds of new techniques and ideas that I can carry forth into tutorials. My list of ideas to teach here is growing longer and longer..

With that I'm proud to announce a mutually advantageous partnership with Wowza Media Systems to assist in getting some of their teaching materials updated in a new format. More on that soon!

For now though, please stay tuned, I do plan to put up a few shorter tutorials working with Flash Builder/Flex and Wowza. I put up a quick poll on whether or not anybody cared if we did more Wowza or FMS stuff here but no responses just yet. Check that out here if you're interested in letting me know. It does help me decide on content to put up, otherwise I just put up things that I feel like doing :)

Lots of updates here. First up is that we have three new tutorials up! That's right, three! and all covering security with FMS.

Tutorial #50: Flash Media Server Security : Using writeAccess to help protect your server
http://www.fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=54

Tutorial #51: Flash Media Server Security : Using server side client permissions to help protect your server
http://www.fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=55

Tutorial #52: Flash Media Server Security : Using the client IP to help protect your server
http://www.fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=56

We've also got updates on our latest product: STi Chat for Wowza http://www.solid-thinking.com/store/basic_chat_v4_wowza/

Last but not least there is a new FMS Usergroup meeting coming up on August 24th, check that out here: http://fms.groups.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=post.display&postid=37901

We've got more coming up soon, so stay tuned!

A few updates here on the site. First up are the two newest tutorials still talking about security and Flash Media Server:

Tutorial #53: Flash Media Server Security : Using the client Agent and Referrer to help protect your server
http://www.fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=57

Tutorial #54: Flash Media Server Security : Taking advantage of the Application.xml file settings to help protect your server
http://www.fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=58

With that, I do plan on getting more tutorials in the future about security with FMS, I think it's important to also cover security with Wowza Media Server. Of course I have a whole list of ideas for tutorials that I just have to find the time to get on with.. not just dry security of course.

Anyways, thanks for visiting as always and stay tuned for more updates shortly!

Since the last update of a few weeks back there have been some new additions to both content and functionality. First up are three new articles:

Streaming videos to iOS devices from Flash Media Server 4.5
http://www.fmsguru.com/showarticle.cfm?articleID=49

Where's a great place to start learning about Flash Media Server development?
http://www.fmsguru.com/showarticle.cfm?articleID=48

Getting the user's GEO Location with Wowza Media Server
http://www.fmsguru.com/showarticle.cfm?articleID=47

There are both more tutorials and articles on the way. On the functionality side, we have improved the ability to find tutorials that you might want to check out based on what you are watching at the time. On each tutorial page we have now listed some related tutorials that may answer your questions on your current topic. If you scroll down past the video then you'll see the list.

We have many more updates to the site coming including a complete redesign which I know I'm very excited about. So stay tuned!

As always, thanks for visiting!
