Willow for Wowza Media Server v1 Support and Updates

Willow is the answer to any Wowza Media Server developer?s or administrator?s problem of how to see what your Wowza Media Server is doing at any one time.We created Willow to meet our needs to be able to see what is going with our applications and servers publishing and playing all types of streams and shared objects. The current tools that exist to monitor Wowza Media Server didn?t meet our needs and we decided to build an application that would.

Features:

Willow provides realtime graphical and data based updates on the server that you are connected to. We have added in graphs and grids of data to help you understand what is happening not only throughout the application, but also down to each instance of any application that is running on the server.

For the data that is associated with your instance in shared objects, we also have the ability to dig into them to see what the values may be at a given time. This is helpful if you use shared objects to remember the state of the application or record data to then push out later. If you?re wondering why your shared objects aren?t working as you expect, this is an indispensable tool to help in debugging.

After all the graphs and data telling you what your applications are doing, we also have the ability for simple management of your Wowza Media Server applications by adding, removing and disabling them and introspecting the application.xml files for them. This functionality is the beginning of a lot as far as we are concerned and makes it easy to get started with a new application if you are doing simple live or VOD streaming. If you need to upload a JAR file, you?ll still need to do that via FTP and then restart the service for the JAR file to take effect.

I would say you should put that info in a shared object. When somebody connects up, they get the whole list, from there they get just the one user that came on at a time. So you'll be passing that information at the same time too.

RE: STi Chat for Wowza Media Server | Foundation Edition v4 Support and Updates

Graeme,
If I wanted to add more user info such as name, phone number, email address to login field and have that information persist on the server side instead of user1_user4 in the logs, where would I input the information? I would include the fields on the flex side of the login dialog I think, but then interacting that info to the usermanager loses me. I have been using the recording function of wowza but want to add more info about the users in the files other than time and generic user1. I assume I would add it somewhere in the _userID or the _usersSO but I am not sure which makes the most sense. thanks so much.

RE: STi Chat for Wowza Media Server | Foundation Edition v4 Support and Updates

All of the information for the user is saved in the server side code. My suggestion would be to pass in the information you want to save on the connect() method. Then, in the UserManager, you are going to want to grab those pieces and save them as you can see I am saving other information about the user. From there, you should have all that information via the userlist on the client side.

RE: STi Chat for Wowza Media Server | Foundation Edition v4 Support and Updates

Hi Graeme. I bought your chat app for wowza, and am trying to adapt it to suit my app. I am new to wowza, so please excuse any dumb questions I might ask.
I simply want to add some additional fields to the sharedobject when a user logs in, so that these fields are accessible by all the other users in the 'room' when they receive the list of users.
Please give me some basic hints on where exactly I should do this, ie in the MXML or the Action Script, and what might be affected in the Java classes.
Thanks

I have retried with 3.1 and been successful, maybe I got in a bad AMI or something from Amazon. I see the mute function is available in the package but dont see it visible on your demo or figure out how to implement it in the application. Is that still supported?
Thanks for checking the Wowza server, I started up a new instance and on the next one it worked.

I tried loading this on the new 3.1 version of the Wowza server and the users dont disconnect , ie the audio streams and video streams arent private anymore. I went back to 3.0.5 and I still run into instances where I enter a room and find another user still connected in that room. I have the .jar file installed on the server and it doesnt happen every time. Are there logs you would be interested in looking at, I was hoping the new Wowza server would clear up the issue, but only added more problems. Thanks!

I'm Testing STiCHAT Wowza and when connected to the four users your videos do not appear on other machines. When I leave and enter the system again with another username it leaves the video screen the name of the old user and does not refresh the name. There are still bugs in this application or am I setting something wrong in Wowza?

STi Chat for Flash Media Server | Foundation Edition v4 Support and Updates

This is a new and improved basic video/audio/text chat application for Flash Media Server with the ability to invite other users to a private room. The Foundation Edition is meant to give developers the building blocks they need to learn, as well as an entry level solution for those needing a basic chat system. The source code is in AS3 and MXML with the Flex 4.6 SDK. We will be working on more features for the chat as we go and all updates are free.

Sorry for the really late reply to this one, I've only now just noticed!

Anyways, yes, you can do that by grabbing the camera names in the Camera object, then select the index of the camera for your camera object in code. Not sure if that makes sense.. you may need to glance at the docs to get the code quite right, but that's the short version of it.

RE: STi Chat for Wowza Media Server | Foundation Edition v4 Support and Updates

Got it all set up and running on my local machine and just have a few questions. I have 2 different microphones one on my headset and one on my computer. I can only get the one on my computer to work even if I change the input to detect it from my mac. My other computer has 2 webcams connected and doesnt work at all unless I disconnect my usb webcam. Is there a way to add a button to switch inputs or detect multiple sources?
thanks!

RE: STi Chat for Wowza Media Server | Foundation Edition v4 Support and Updates

If you have a local install of Wowza running then all you need to do is copy in the right application.xml file (there is both a version 2 and 3 copy in the download) to the folder in the conf folder that you created for the application. Also be sure to make the same name folder in the "applications" folder too. Nothing else to do there.

Copy in the JAR file that is included and restart Wowza. That should be all there needs to be done.

Double check the connection string in the source code for the client side and compile the project and you should be good.

Looks like the server was down here.. thanks for catching that for me!

As for your offer to put together some notes on what you did, that is very gracious of you and I would be happy to see anything you write. Thank you.
