RE: need the ancient fms 2 authoring components (for Flash 8 Professional)

Okay pardon my confusion. I guess the second to the last download on that page is indeed the most recent. The updater replaces or installs the communication components into Flash MX 2004. I guess that's the very last one that was released. I guess I and others who used the components with any later version of the Flash authoring tool simply copied that part of the components folder for Flash MX 2004 to the components folder of Flash 8 Professional or whatever.

So I guess I'll have to uninstall Flash 8 Professional, then install Flash MX 2004 (assuming I can find that) and then install the communication components updater (since it looks for an installation of Flash MX 2004), and then copy and save that part of the components folder before removing Flash MX 2004 and reinstalling Flash 8 Professional or a later version.

RE: need the ancient fms 2 authoring components (for Flash 8 Professional)

Thank you very much Graeme. Pardon any ignorance here but actually I had already examined that page and looked at it again just now. I recall before (years ago) there was a separate download for the authoring-side communication components, which worked with Flash Professional 8 and Flash Media Server 2 (though they were AS1 components). The closest thing I see to that now on that page is the second to the last item:

Flash Communication Server Authoring Components Updater for Flash MX 2004
December 19, 2003

But that seems to be just an updater, as it says. But I actually did download it and try to install it but it said it found no Flash MX 2004 on my system.

Again I have Flash 8 Professional, and before I had the communication components (for Flash 8 Professional) that came from a separate download, and I just can't find that now. Maybe it doesn't exist anymore on the Adobe site (well it was actually Macromedia). Perhaps someone has it handy?

Believe it or not I have a need for the very outdated authoring components for flash media server. I think they were AS1 components, maybe they were called communication components, and they were compatible with Flash 8 Professional. I think they're the latest ones but they were never updated by Adobe. I can't find them anymore on the Adobe site. Does anyone have them?

Live audio stream / choppy audio

Hey all,

I have a FCS 1.5 install that has been running for about 5 years. It generally works fine, but sometimes when we publish a live audio-only stream, many users report that the audio is very choppy. We're not talking occasional dropouts, but full-on choppy audio. It's a 11khz stream. Default buffer time. Nothing unusual in the logs. Restarting FCS doesn't help, it still happens once in a while. I believe Updater 2 has been installed. Any ideas?

It kind of sounds like a bandwidth issue, but this happens on a 20mb DSL connection, which is otherwise very fast.

That's a tough thing to do, I doubt anybody will be able to let you know. Flash doesn't really do emoticons very efficiently and there are weird calculations to be done when using them. I don't have an answer for you unfortunately either but if you figure something out or find a link then please post back.

Sound duration in AS3 Befor loading is completed the same as in youtube player

Hi every body

I need to create a player to stream audio files (mp3 and other audio extentions) in my website. To create this player I used flash cs3 and actionscript3.

I found actionscript 2 is easyer to creat and get duration (mysound.duration) but in ac3 I can't get sound duration with this syntext : "mySound.duration"

attention : In ActionScript3 BEFORE loading is completed , I need my audio file in player to show duration and displayed minute and second in this stage.
I tried so many solutions in the internet but all of them provide sound duration AFTER loading is Completed (but I need sound duration BEFORE loading is Completed)

attention : My audio files are multi bitrate rang exp.(24 kbs , 34kbs , 128kbs or higher).

I am trying to get audio DURATION of audio "total bytes" but these solutions just are right for only 128kbs audios.

I need any help to solve this problem.
please help me

Thank you

RE: I really urgently need help on this one...

There shouldn't be an issue of going deeper, although come to think of it I don't think I've ever tried. This will depend on what player you are using, but if you specify the directory structure properly in the netStream.play() method, then I don't see why there would be an issue.

That's if I'm reading you correctly. If you happen to be talking about an instance within an instance (2001 is the app name and denmark is the instance name), then no, you can't do that.

On a side note, it's not a good idea to name applications with only numbers. I'm not sure why, but it's not recommended by Adobe and I can recall having issues in the past with that.

I really urgently need help on this one...

Is there anyone who knows if it is possible to access using RTMP in multiple layers of directories like:

rtmp://{Server-domain or IP]/2011/denmark/user-3209382000023/

I can only make it work with 1 directory level under the applications directory.

Making lots a of streams is a problem with a very flat structure creating a high
latency in searching in a plain filesystem with many directories at the same level.

Its strange because the client application can connect using the multiple directory layer
structure but FMS will not make connections between 2 clients except if the main.asc file is placed in most 1 directory level under the applications directory.

Does anyone know a get around, set-up or anything that might help?

Best regards
Mikkel

List of allowed instance names

Is it possible to restrain the instance names to some list e.g. (room1, room2, room3)?
The reason i'm asking this is, cause i wonder:
How does FMS protects against malicious users, that can create script to connect on 1000000 instances on the server?

I went with the second option(though i'm not very happy to count on the client side to stop the video).

RE: Connection Help

I checked services It says FMS started under service's, I ran netstat and I don't see 1935 in use on the list. I also added an exception on the firewall to the port and the program itsself. When I get home from work I will try to run the app in safe mode and post results, maybe it is a program blocking it from connection? idk
