Willow. Wowza Media Server Management made easy and intuitive

Solid Thinking Interactive was built doing FMS (now AMS) work with Flash in the beginning. In fact, Wowza didn't exist back then. Adobe was the only game in town. When it first came out there was a simple Flash based administration app for it that allowed you to connect to the server and introspect the apps, shared objects, settings and streams. Very handy but was limited. Then they came out with version 2 and it stopped there and is stagnant to this day. That said though, it's very useful for the most part.

We do a lot of work with Wowza Media Server now. When first starting out, there was a huge void that needed to be filled for me in trying to understand what is going on in an application or the server in general. That mainly got taken up with logging lots of stuff. Build an app, test it, find out what is going wrong by checking the logs or watch the console run by. While that worked ok, there was still a need to be able to see much closer what is happening with bandwidth, connections, applications running and so on.

To tell the truth, I can't say I have talked to anybody that doesn't feel that way. From what I understand, most of us do what I do, check the logs and use the console, you can inspect the Java runtime too but it's not very visually oriented.

This void is about to be filled by a new product we hope to launch in the next few weeks.

We have been in testing for quite some time now and feel that the feature set for version 1 is a great start. Like a willow tree, we plan on growing fast and improving on a regular basis. This will go faster with continued feedback, which is why we are going to also create a dedicated page for feedback to send off anything our clients want to say to us. Good or bad. All requests will be considered of course, and like all of our products, as long as we are still in the same major version number, updates will be at no cost.

I'll update more as we make progress so please keep an eye on the blog for more info. At this point, the most I can say is that by using this application, you will have a much better understanding of what is going on within your Wowza Media server, from connections to bandwidth to memory usage and down to each application.

I know I'm excited as this has been a long time coming!
